Professional Engineer

Engineering Solutions. Serving Community.

Sam Mortazavi is a Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with years of hands-on experience solving complex infrastructure and project challenges. He understands how cities are built, maintained, and improved, not from a textbook, but from real-world engineering practice.

Sam also has a background in legal studies, giving him a rare dual perspective on governance, municipal law, and the regulatory frameworks that shape how Newmarket grows and operates. He reads the bylaws. He reviews the engineering reports. He asks the questions that matter.

But beyond credentials, Sam is a neighbour. He has lived, worked, and volunteered in Newmarket for nearly a decade, attending community events, supporting local organizations, and listening to residents long before he decided to run for council.

Licensed P.Eng.

Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) licensed ,qualified to review, assess, and challenge infrastructure decisions.

Legal Literacy

Background in legal studies with a strong grasp of municipal law, bylaws, and governance frameworks.

Community Roots

Years of active involvement in the Newmarket community, not a newcomer, but a committed long-term resident.

Evidence-Based

Every position backed by data, analysis, and expert input, not political instinct or party loyalty.

Why I'm Running

Newmarket deserves a councillor who shows up, reads the reports, and fights for residents, not for politics.

I'm running because Newmarket has real, solvable problems that aren't being solved. Roads are deteriorating. Traffic safety concerns go unaddressed. Taxpayer money is spent without clear accountability. Residents feel unheard.

I'm not a career politician. I'm an engineer and a neighbour who is tired of watching avoidable problems get worse because the people making decisions don't have the technical background to push back on bad advice , or the community connection to understand what residents actually need.

I believe Newmarket deserves better. And I believe I have the skills, the knowledge, and the commitment to deliver it.

The problems I'm here to fix

Roads and infrastructure deteriorating faster than they're repaired
Traffic and road safety concerns ignored for years
Taxpayer dollars spent without measurable outcomes
Residents feeling unheard at council
Development decisions lacking proper engineering oversight
A need for evidence-based, technically literate leadership

Core Values

What I Stand For

Evidence Over Ideology

Decisions should be driven by data, engineering analysis, and expert input, not political convenience.

Radical Transparency

Every vote explained. Every dollar accounted for. Every resident kept informed.

Genuine Accountability

I will measure my own performance against concrete commitments, and publish the results.

Community First

Newmarket residents are not a constituency to manage. They are neighbours to serve.
